OOO TRAVEL SCHOOL / PACK LIGHTER
Pack for the week you will actually have.
Start with the weather, activities and laundry plan. A useful suitcase is a small collection of things that work together, with room to bring something home.
Make an activity list before a packing list
Write down what the trip contains: walking, a dressier meal, beach time, cooler evenings or a place with specific clothing expectations. Check the forecast close to departure and confirm any venue dress requirements directly.
Give each activity a practical outfit. If three tops work with the same two bottoms, you have more combinations than six unrelated outfits. Wear the bulkiest useful shoes during travel and add another pair only when it serves a clear purpose.
Choose a laundry point
For a week away, decide whether you will wash clothes midway or pack for the full interval. Ask the stay about cost and turnaround; do not assume laundry returned the next day will be ready before an early checkout.
A sample warm-weather starting point is four tops, two bottoms, sleepwear, underwear for the wash interval and a suitable light layer. Adapt this to your comfort, climate and activities. It is a starting list, not a weight guarantee or a rule about what everyone needs.
Separate the arrival essentials
Keep the items needed between leaving home and reaching your room easy to access. That usually includes your required travel documents, phone, charger, valuables and a small change of clothes. Avoid burying the hotel address beneath everything else.
Check your airline and airport rules for liquids, batteries, power banks and restricted articles before assigning items to cabin or checked baggage. Packing neatly does not make a restricted item acceptable. Use the rules for your actual journey rather than a social-media packing list.
- One pouch for charging cables and adapters
- One small toiletries bag, checked against the route’s rules
- A separate bag for worn or wet clothes
- An accessible layer for the journey
Do a departure rehearsal
Pack everything, close the bag and weigh it using a scale. Measure it if you are close to the airline’s size limit. Include the small items you tend to add at the last minute, because they still count.
Carry the bag around the room and up a short flight of stairs if that reflects your trip. Remove duplicates before buying a larger bag. Leave space for purchases, and check return baggage allowances separately when the flight or fare differs.
