OOO TRAVEL SCHOOL / ARRIVE WELL

Make your first 24 hours the easiest part.

You do not need a minute-by-minute holiday. You do need a clear way to get from your arrival point to a room, a meal and a good first night.

01

Work forward from arrival, not from the wish list

Use the scheduled landing or station time as the beginning of the arrival process. Allow for getting out, collecting bags, finding transport and travelling to the stay. For an international trip, add the required arrival formalities to that sequence.

Check hotel check-in separately. If you arrive in the morning, ask whether bag storage is possible and whether early room access is available or chargeable. Only treat an early room as confirmed when the property has explicitly agreed to it.

02

Write a transfer plan you can follow when tired

Save the full property name, address, contact number and entrance location. Similar hotel names and multiple branches can lead to the wrong drop-off. For a prearranged pickup, confirm the meeting point and what happens if the arrival is delayed.

Choose a primary transfer and a backup from the airport, station or operator’s own information. Verify operating hours and the final connection for your date. If you are arriving late, confirm that both transport and reception will still be available.

03

Keep the first outing close to your base

Choose one nearby meal and one optional walk rather than a timed attraction across the city. The point is to understand your neighbourhood: where you can eat, how the streets connect and how to return to the stay.

Book a non-refundable first-day activity only if you are comfortable losing it after a delay. Travelling with children, older relatives or after an overnight journey can make a rest period more valuable than another stop.

  • One reliable place to eat near the stay
  • One short, optional outing
  • A clear route back before you become tired
  • Tomorrow’s first booking checked before bed
04

Use the first evening to make tomorrow easier

Confirm the meeting point and opening information for the next morning’s main activity. Charge devices, set aside the items needed for the day and check the weather before choosing clothing.

Send a brief arrival update to someone you trust if that is part of your travel plan. Then stop planning. A settled first evening gives the rest of the trip a better starting point than trying to recover an imaginary full day of sightseeing.

BEFORE YOU MOVE ON

Your quick checklist

  • Exact property address and contact saved
  • Transfer and backup checked
  • Check-in or bag-drop arrangement confirmed
  • First meal kept near the stay
  • First outing can be skipped without a penalty
