THE PLAN, AT A GLANCE

Trip overview

Spend four days between Jaisalmer’s fort city and one carefully chosen desert outing. Keep at least two nights in town; a dune camp should be a deliberate choice about quiet, entertainment and comfort.

HOW LONG
4 days / 3 nights. Four days assume arrival in Jaisalmer on day one. The sample uses three hotel nights and a desert day trip, not an overnight camp.
BEFORE YOU BOOK
Do not assume a direct flight operates on your dates. Fix the gateway first, then reserve the hotel and any camp.

Best time to visit

November–February

Our preferred window

Preferred for walking and dunes, with cold desert evenings.

October / March

A different season

Shoulder months can work with early starts and shade through the afternoon.

April–September

Weather trade-off

Heat makes a short leisure visit harder; reassess desert activities and comfort.

Getting there & getting around

Walk the town core and hire a driver for one defined desert circuit. Confirm the dune location instead of accepting a generic ‘desert safari’ label.

The last stretch

Within the destination

UNDERSTAND THIS PLACE / 2-MINUTE FIELD NOTE

A fort that is still a neighbourhood.

Jaisalmer’s sandstone architecture links defensive walls, merchant havelis and living streets. The fort is part of UNESCO’s Hill Forts of Rajasthan listing and remains inhabited. The desert outside is another landscape altogether; give both places time rather than arriving only for a sunset photograph.

QUESTIONS BEFORE BOOKING

Do I need to sleep in a camp?

No. A well-planned desert day and evening trip lets you return to a comfortable town room.

Is Sam the only option?

No. Compare locations such as Khuri and ask what the setting is actually like.

Can I combine it with Jaipur in four days?

The distances make that rushed. Pair nearby route legs with extra nights.
